Nenad Ljubenovic was born in Belgrade where he completed primary and secondary education, instrument accordion at the music school “Dr. Vojislav Vuckovic” under Radmila Stanisic. His musical education continues at the National Music academy of Ukraine “Petar Iljic Cajkovski” in Kiev under Vladimir Bulavko and Pavel Fenjuk. Besides accordion, he optional studies composition under Marina Denisenko.
He graduated a year ahead of schedule with honors.
During 2001-2004 he specialised modern music in Germany, where he studies with Mirjana Petercol in Kasel and Gudrun Val in Berlin. He is a laureate of a numerous international competitions.
Since the 1996 he has been a regular guest at the major festivals (such as festivals of the modern music in Kiev, Lvov, Kasel, Visbaden..). Also, he has inspired many composers such as Miklos Maros, Zoltan Almasi, Oleksandr Schetynsky, Kevin Morris to created new pieces for accordion. As a consequence of his active engagement in modern music, he had a concert with Symphonic Orchestra of the RTS, where for the very first time in history of the Radio Belgrade Symphonic Orchestra accordion was a solo instrument. For that occasion, in Serbia, he played premiere of Concert for accordion and symphonic orchestra “Under the Sign of Scorpio”, by Sofija Gubaidulin.
He has recorded for radio and television of Belgrade, Kiev, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain… He actively performs all around Europe. He is regular member of the orchestra ‘ Black & White World ‘. He also composes theater music, music for movies and commercials.
He works as professor of accordion at State Music Conservatorium in Belgrade – Vuckovic, where he also worked as a chief of accordion department. Since 2013 he was engaged as a Coordinator of a project: “City in the process of candidacy for the European capitol of culture – “Belgrade 2020”.
Mushkalica duo
This unusual duo is a research project of two artists, Zoran Anic and Nenad Ljubenovic. They are their own, rich musical experience, built into the process of contemporary reading of the traditional musical heritage. MUSHKALICA duo is representing the source and the beginning but also the wisdom and simplicity. Through a seemingly simple concept, two instruments, such as guitar and accordion, take us back to the beginnings of musical expression, devoid of frills directing attention to a fundamental element in the art, pure emotion. „We wanted to spread out the sounds that surround us in everyday life, which has become very complex. Music is like life has become crowded with detail, sounds artificial, synthetic rhythms, many voices. Our idea is to take a break, to look back to understand what is the nucleus, similar thing in all music periods thru time, what is the lasting value and how to isolate that and introduce to the audience. This music is not necessary to preserved, because it’s original value still present, but it’s nice, again put it in a time context and realize its function and value in modern times. It is a process in which we enjoyed and we hope you will enjoy too, listening our work“.
Duo is very active on concert scene. They performed throughout Europe and achieved significant cooperation with other artists. At the very beginning of duo concert activity, and as the world-renowned artist, given to them by such a honor to open the World Expo in Milan2015.
The duo released their first CD under the same name MUSHKALICA.
